This is a painting of the old whaling ship Charles W, Morgan when it was tied to Chubbs Warf in Connecticut at Mystic Seaport. It is the only wooden whaling ship left. I attempted to capture the scene with early morning fog before the sun burned it off.
I was raised in the cultural rich environment of New England with it's coast lines and vistas like non-other. My parents got into painting and as a teen, I followed suit. Our family had a history based around the ocean which included whaling, fishing and recreation. Naturally my first painting, when I was 15, was of a clipper ship. Through the years my main subject matter has been maritime painting in oils. I've had dry spells like when I was in the Navy but have always come back to what I enjoy. I get a lot of pleasure from creating something others can appreciate. Now that I am retired I can spend some of my leisure time painting.
